Dr. Cardenas Rivas is a third year resident in Internal Medicine at the Max Rady College of Medicine at the University of Manitoba. Her career began with the completion of a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Biochemistry at the University of Calgary, where she first conducted research on lipid metabolism under the supervision of Dr. Vanina Zaremberg and presented her findings at multiple academic symposiums. She later earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from the Cumming School of Medicine where she developed an interest in the field of Endocrinology and published a case series in Calcified Tissues International on the competing effects of low estrogen and high BMI on bone density.
Currently, Dr. Cardenas Rivas is focused on research examining neonatal outcomes in pregnancies complicated by maternal hypertension and diabetes under the mentorship of Dr. Jennifer Yamamoto. Additionally, she has been involved in investigations of long-term outcomes in patients with indolent lymphoma treated with bendamustine-rituximab, supervised by Dr. Lin Yang, with findings recently presented at the Canadian Conference for Lymphoproliferative Disorders in 2024.
Recognized for academic excellence, Dr. Cardenas Rivas has received numerous awards, including the CCOLD Young Investigator Research Award in 2024 and multiple scholarships for outstanding academic merit during her undergraduate studies.
In July 2025, Dr. Cardenas Rivas will begin her fellowship training in Endocrinology and Metabolism at the University of Alberta, furthering her expertise and commitment to improving patient care in this area of medicine. Driven by a passion for evidence-based practice, Dr. Cardenas Rivas aims to integrate clinical work with research to enhance patient outcomes and contribute meaningfully to the field of Endocrinology and Metabolism.
