Ralf Paschke obtained his M. D. degree from the J. W. Goethe University in Frankfurt. His clinical training took place at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles and in the university clinics of Frankfurt, Mannheim/Heidelberg and Münster. He trained in Pathology, Internal Medicine and Endocrinology in the university hospitals of Frankfurt, Mannheim and Muenster. He spent 4 years as a Heisenberg Professor in the Molecular Laboratory of the Institute of Interdisciplinary Research at the Universite Libre in Brussels, Belgium. In 1995 he was appointed Professor of Internal Medicine and Endocrinology at the University of Leipzig. He served for 9 years as Director of the Medical Department III at Leipzig University with the sections Endocrinology, Diabetes and Nephrology. He was also the coordinator for endocrine research and deputy chairman of the Interdisciplinary Centre for Clinical Research at Leipzig University, Germany. In 2015 he moved to the University of Calgary. He served as head of the division of endocrinology in Calgary for four years and as chair of the provincial endocrine tumour team in Alberta for eight years. His major research interests include clinical and molecular diagnosis and management of thyroid nodules, thyroid cancer, goiter, and hyperthyroidism and TSH-receptor genetics. He is the author of more than 350 original publications. Ralf Paschke serves on the editorial boards of several international journals and guideline committees and directs a research laboratory in the Arnie Charbonneau cancer institute at the University of Calgary.
