Dr. Wherrett is a pediatric endocrinologist at the Hospital for Sick Children and Professor, Department of Pediatrics, University of Toronto. Her major research focus is in the pathogenesis and prediction of the development fo type 1 diabetes and interventions to prevent beta cell loss in type 1 diabetes. She is a member of the Steering Committee of the NIH-sponsored multi-centre clinical trials group, Type 1 Diabetes TrialNet and leads TrialNet efforts in Canada. She leads a research consortium investigating screening Canadian children for risk of type 1 diabetes, CanScreen T1D.
